Liquid ergothioneine, an amino acid your body takes up from food and concentrates inside cells.

Your practitioner will advise whether this fits your plan, and at what amount.

At a glance

  • Six months, 54 healthy adults, some of them on a look-alike with nothing in it: a daily amount close to the 200 mg here supported their own normal glutathione levels. About a month after they stopped, levels drifted back. So this supports normal levels while you keep taking it, not after.*
  • The 20 mg of ergothioneine sits between the two amounts human research has tested, 5 mg and 25 mg a day. Healthy adults absorbed it and held onto it, with under 4% leaving in urine. That is uptake, not effect.*
  • One teaspoon (5 mL) holds 200 mg glutathione, 600 mg vitamin C, 150 mcg selenium, and 20 mg ergothioneine. 20 servings per bottle.

*Supports healthy levels already within the normal range. All of the research behind these ingredients tested them one at a time, not this blend.

Vitamin C (as Sodium Ascorbate)

600 mg

Structure / Function

Vitamin C is a nutrient your body cannot make. It all comes from food or a supplement. It is one of your everyday antioxidantA protector molecule. It steps in and defuses the unstable particles that would otherwise wear your cells down. nutrients. It works in the watery parts inside and around your cells. The form here is sodium ascorbate: vitamin C with a little sodium, so it is less acidic than plain vitamin C.

Selenium (as Methylselenocysteine)

150 mcg

Structure / Function

Your body needs selenium in tiny amounts and cannot make it. It has to come from food or a supplement. Brazil nuts and seafood are good sources. Your body builds it into about two dozen proteins it needs to work normally. Some of those work alongside glutathioneYour body's master antioxidant. It mops up the everyday wear that would otherwise damage your cells.. The form here is methylselenocysteine, the same one found in garlic.

Sodium

65 mg

Structure / Function

Sodium is a mineral. We did not add it as its own ingredient. It comes with the vitamin C, which is sodium ascorbate, a form paired with a little sodium. Labeling rules say sodium has to be listed when it is present. So it shows up on the panel, at 3% of a day's worth per serving.

L-Ergothioneine

20 mg

Structure / Function

Your body cannot make ergothioneine, so it has to come from what you eat. It is a natural compound found in foods like mushrooms, oats and beans. Your cells pull it in through a doorway built just for it, then hold onto it. What it does once it is inside is still being worked out.

Opitac™ Glutathione

200 mg

Structure / Function

Your cells make their own antioxidantA protector molecule. It steps in and defuses the unstable particles that would otherwise wear your cells down., called glutathioneYour body's master antioxidant. It mops up the everyday wear that would otherwise damage your cells.. They keep more of it than most others. Its everyday job is tidying up normal cell wear. Opitac is a branded form of that molecule. In healthy adults, 250 mg a day of glutathione alone, a bit more than the 200 mg here, helped support their own blood levels.

Phosphatidylcholine (from purified sunflower seed lecithin)

260 mg

Structure / Function

This is a fat called phosphatidylcholine. It comes from purified sunflower lecithin, a fatty substance from sunflower seeds. Its job here is practical, not nutritional. It acts as a blender. It holds the other parts of the mix evenly through the bottle, the way lecithin keeps salad dressing from splitting.

Ergo-Thione+ is built around the antioxidant system your body runs every day. Antioxidants are the molecules that help keep normal, everyday cell wear in check. Glutathione is one your cells make on their own, and it carries the cleanest human evidence here: in healthy adults, a daily amount a little above the 200 mg in one serving helped support their own normal glutathione levels in the blood. Ergothioneine (say er-go-THIGH-oh-neen) is the opposite. Your body can't make it, so it has to come from food like mushrooms. In one study of healthy adults, the body took pure ergothioneine in well and held onto it for weeks. That study looked at uptake only and did not show a change in antioxidant markers, so uptake is all we claim for it. Vitamin C and selenium also have to come from food, and the research behind them is about keeping normal levels well supplied rather than pushing them higher. Across the R.E.S.E.T. 10, that everyday antioxidant and nutrient-level support is where the evidence sits. One much smaller, early signal sits well behind it: in a 14-person pilot with no comparison group, vitamin C on its own, at a higher daily amount than one serving provides, went along with changes in the everyday mix of gut bacteria, some kinds up and others down, and the study counted bacteria only, not how anyone felt. Every study behind this page tested a single ingredient, not this blend.

How do I take Ergo-Thione+?

Shake well and measure 1 teaspoon. Hold it in your mouth for 30 to 90 seconds, then swallow. Take it on an empty stomach when you can, at least 10 minutes before food. Start with the serving on the label and don't go above it on your own. The right amount differs by person and by age, so your practitioner will tell you how much and how often. Ask them first if you are pregnant or nursing. If it doesn't sit well, cut back or stop and talk to them. If you ever have a reaction that worries you, stop and get medical care right away.

What does it taste like?

Citrus, from natural flavorings and natural citrus oils. The vitamin C is paired with a little sodium, which makes it less sour than plain vitamin C. The label also lists a small amount of ethanol (alcohol). That is worth knowing, since the liquid sits in your mouth before you swallow. We don't have enough customer feedback yet to describe the aftertaste honestly. A sip of water afterward is fine.

The percentages on the panel look high. What does that mean?

They compare one serving to the Daily Value, a general daily reference the FDA sets. It is not a limit. Vitamin C is 667% and selenium is 273%. Vitamin C dissolves in water, so what your body doesn't use passes out in urine. Selenium is the one to keep an eye on, because you need only a tiny amount of it and it adds up across products. More on that below.

Can my child take this?

Only with guidance from your practitioner. The teaspoon on this label is an adult serving, and a child's amount is not simply a smaller spoonful. The research behind these ingredients was done in adults, so there is no children's amount to point you to. This liquid also contains alcohol (ethanol). That is worth naming, because the same amount goes further in a smaller body. Please ask your practitioner before you start.

Can I take it with my other supplements or medication?

Ask your practitioner before you start. That call is theirs, not ours, and it goes double if you take prescription medicine. The reason to ask here specifically is selenium: it's in most multivitamins and plenty of other formulas, so your total can climb without you noticing. Bring the bottle to your next visit, or ask us for the full ingredient list to take along.
